Commercial lawyer, Craig Malarkey comments:
“This is another recent example of big business being hit by big fines from the ICO for breach of data rules. However, these rules don’t just apply to big business and with the upcoming changes in the law with the introduction of the GDPR all businesses should be looking at the existing systems and policies and ensuring they are compliant with the existing rules and the new rules. If you are in any doubt Tilly Bailey & Irvine is always on hand to offer assistance and advice and draft compliant policies. The size of the fines for MoneySuperMarket are perhaps extraordinary, however, this is an area where the ICO has wide powers and sever penalties are available across the board”
We are holding a free breakfast event on 12th October at our Commercial office in Wynyard for any North East businesses who want to find out more about breach of data rules. You can register for a place on our website: Countdown To GDPR Seminar.
Price comparison website MoneySuperMarket has been fined £80,000 ($103,000) by the Information Commissioner's Office for sending more than seven million emails to people who had opted out of receiving its communications.
